Learn a little more about Liz Torres
My name is Liz and I am the founder of Mindful Yoga With Liz. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
I stumbled upon my first yoga class in a gym and decided to “give it a shot.” I was quickly drawn to the benefits of both the physical and mental aspect of the practice. Noticing an improvement in sleeping patterns, a significant decrease in stress, and a more enlightened outlook on life, I decided to take a 200 hr Yoga Alliance Teacher Training with Kelly Kamm at Happy Buddha Yoga, in Goshen, N.Y. I didn’t take this training to teach. I really just wanted to learn more about yoga.
About a month into the program, that all changed and I knew I wanted to teach kids. About two months after that, I realized I needed to share yoga with everyone – all ages, everywhere. One of my favorite Rumi quotes is “As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears.” This is quite fitting for me because the funny thing about life is that it’s like pieces of a puzzle. Sometimes, things fall into place before you even know what is going to happen. I always wanted to be a teacher in a school setting but something always held me back. I began working in the Corporate World of Mortgages at age 20 and just never finalized teaching because I’ve also always loved my job.
Becoming a yoga teacher was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Ironically enough, it’s also my outlet to teach. I love sharing yoga with students. The rewards as a teacher are endless and the benefits from both a teaching and a practicing standpoint are absolutely amazing.
After I received my 200 Hour Vinyasa Certification, I felt like I was just scratching the surface and I needed to know more. So I took more classes that interested me. I became certified to teach Children and Teens Yoga, Yin Yoga, Advanced Restorative Yoga and then went on for my Reiki Level 1. I work with children independently, in group and family settings, and most recently in local schools and daycares. I teach adults at local studios and through my own business.
I truly believe that the benefits of yoga are endless. I enjoy teaching yoga to adults and kids of all ages. It keeps me light hearted and that radiates into my classes with a carefree approach. I strive to teach students how to weave the mind and body together to dig deep for strength, peace, balance and mindfulness. We learn how do this ON the mat but it stays with us OFF the mat.
I currently reside in the Hudson Valley with my family and still work in both the mortgage industry and the yoga world and for me, it’s a perfect balance.
I look forward to meeting you all one day and hopefully practicing right there next to you.
